Event Summary

Current Challenges, Trends and Practices in Ukrainian Choreographic Culture and Education in the European and Global Context

I am honored to return for a second year as an invited presenter at the international Scientific and Practical Conference “Current Challenges, Trends and Practices in Ukrainian Choreographic Culture and Education in the European and Global Context,” hosted by the National University of Ukraine on Physical Education and Sport in Kyiv.

My presentation, “From Training to Stage: Ukrainian Folk-Stage Pedagogy and the Expansion of Ukrainian Choreographic Art in the United States,” examines my work introducing systematic Ukrainian folk-stage pedagogy into American pre-professional ballet training.

The presentation considers two possible outcomes of this work: the role this training can play in the continued development of Ukrainian choreographic art, and the ways Ukrainian choreographic knowledge may travel with dancers into the broader American dance field.

This work grows from my 2024 research proposing an eight-level Ukrainian folk-stage curriculum and continues through teaching, apprenticeship, curriculum documentation, and choreographic practice in the United States.
