About the event
MISAKO BALLET STUDIO at Japan Day Fall Festival

The Misako Ballet Studio brings the beauty of classical ballet and Japanese-themed works to audiences, creating performances that celebrate joy, artistry, and the rich cultural diversity of Howard County. Guided by their signature theme of “classical ballet with a Japanese twist”, the company presents both beloved traditional ballets and original one-act ballets inspired by Japanese folktales, blending Western technique with Japanese spirit.
Founded and directed by Misako Aoki, the company reflects her unique vision and artistry. Trained in Japan and later at the Royal Ballet School in London, Ms. Aoki performed internationally with the Matsuyama Ballet Company alongside Rudolf Nureyev before moving to the United States, where she founded her own studio, taught at Towson and UMBC, and assisted in productions with the Moscow Ballet and the Washington Ballet. As Artistic Director, she has shaped Misako Ballet Company into a professional ensemble deeply rooted in both discipline and cultural storytelling, earning recognition including the Howard County Arts Council’s Mark Ryder Original Choreography Grant and the IAM Creativity Grant.
At Japan Day, the company will share selections that reflect their distinctive artistry. I am honored to join their program, performing Memory of Summer with Sara Bradna. This evocative work, choreographed by Artistic Director Misako Aoki, captures fleeting moments of beauty and nostalgia, expressed through the language of ballet.
We invite you to experience Misako Ballet Company’s artistry, where East meets West in dance, and to celebrate the spirit of cultural connection through movement.
