Event Summary
I look forward to bringing Spirit of the Dance to the St. Matthew Multicultural Festival in Columbia, Maryland, for our first appearance at this celebration of the many cultures and traditions represented throughout the community.
The program will reflect the increasingly broad range of work we are developing through Spirit of the Dance — from Ukrainian folk-stage tradition to theatrical and narrative choreography inspired by Ukrainian literature and cultural imagery.
The program will include the premiere of our new Pryvit, drawing upon the Ukrainian tradition of welcoming guests with bread and salt, as well as selections from the Lesia Ukrainka Suite. We will also be joined by guest artist Marsha Bonet and my character dance students from Misako Ballet Studio, bringing professional, community, and student artists together within a shared performance.
I am especially pleased to present this work in Columbia as Spirit of the Dance continues to establish a stronger presence in our home region of Maryland. The festival itself is conceived as a celebration of the many cultures and traditions represented throughout the community.
