Event Summary
I am delighted that Spirit of the Dance will be represented at the 2026 Westminster Fallfest by ensemble artist Renee Jaranson, appearing as part of the Carroll County Dance Center & Ballet Conservatory program.
Renee will perform the Lileya Variation from the celebrated Ukrainian ballet inspired by the dramatic poetry of Taras Shevchenko. As Artistic Director of Spirit of the Dance, I value opportunities for individual artists within the ensemble to carry Ukrainian choreographic work into broader community and educational settings, particularly through organizations with which I have an ongoing artistic relationship.
This appearance is especially meaningful because I teach Character Dance at Carroll County Dance Center and have enjoyed opportunities to collaborate with the school both as an instructor and performer. Renee’s performance allows Spirit of the Dance to contribute a lyrical example of Ukrainian ballet tradition to the Fallfest program while supporting the work of a dance community that is also an important part of my own artistic life.
The performance also makes September 27 an unusual day for Spirit of the Dance, with ensemble artists appearing simultaneously in Maryland and Pennsylvania.
