SUMMARY:
Based on Georges Bizet’s Opera, after the 1845 novella by Prosper Mérimée, this iconic masterpiece is known throughout the world. This short narrative work portrays the alluring Spanish gypsy, Carmen, in a tale of lust and obsession, as the infantry soldier Don Jose and a Toreador compete for her affection. The timeless music captures the passionate struggle between possessive and prodigal love.

Ukrainian Composer Oleg Bezborodka arranges Bizet’s melodies into a seven minute “paraphrase” that can express the essence of the story distilled into a seamless medley of beloved musical moments. This score imaginatively lends itself as a minimalistic dance piece presenting the archetypes through the various styles of character dance.
