SUMMARY:
A song by renown Ukrainian popular music composer, Volodymyr Ivasyuk, whose work in the 1960’s and 1970’s evoked the Ukrainian national spirit before he was discovered hanged from a tree in the forest at age 30 at the height of his popularity, believed by many to be the work of the KGB.
A heartfelt ballad, remembering the fullness of a romance and a “time of spring” within its fate. The essence of the love remains captured within the words of the song and always opens the door to that “time of spring.” This song was popularized by the Ukrainian pop diva Sophia Rodaru, but the music for this choreography comes from the Kazka Ukrainian Folk Ensemble’s album Timeless Traditions, an album central to my life since childhood. This choreography is dedicated to the Kazka Ukrainia Folk Ensemble.
While the dancers in the piece evoke the characters of Ivasyuk and Rodaru, the female dancer wears red as a nod to another widely popular Ivasyuk hit song, Chervona Ruta.
