SYNOPSIS:
Horseshoes (Pidkivochky) is a joyful Ukrainian folk dance inspired by the traditions of Central Ukraine near Zaporizhzhia, the historic homeland of the Ukrainian Kozaks. Meaning “Horseshoes,” the dance portrays a young man and woman engaged in playful courtship as stamping, prancing, and bounding steps echo the rhythm and vitality of galloping horses.
Blending spirited footwork with lighthearted partnering, the choreography captures both the strength associated with Kozak tradition and the warmth, humor, and youthful energy of village celebration. Compact yet exuberant, the dance reflects the lively character and enduring appeal of Central Ukrainian folk culture.

The steppes surrounding Zaporizhzhia are closely associated with the Ukrainian Kozaks, whose horsemanship, resilience, and vibrant traditions have profoundly influenced the music and dances of the region.

This choreography presents an original folk-stage duet inspired by the movement vocabulary and spirit of Central Ukraine, using playful courtship and horse-inspired rhythms.
